Think Global Act Local Researched Persuasive Essay

Choose ONE organization to research and focus on *NOTE the organization does not have to be local but the
students need to be able to get involved locally (e.g. local chapter of an national organization)*.
- Be specific in how they should get involved e.g. do not tell them to volunteer if that’s not a viable option
(and I will be checking). You may be calling these places and asking how to get involved.
- The research being done should be done on the effectiveness of the organization locally and how one can
get involved rather than on the social problem the organization addresses.
- This essay is essentially an extension of the A1 presentations where I am looking for you to greatly expand
on the “Now What (what can I do)” portion of the assignment with a specific focus on Acting Local.

DETAILS:
1. Paper length: 3-5 pages in the body of the report. Your report should be a minimum of three full pages or a
maximum of five pages, not counting the title page and works cited. The body of the report will include your
introduction, main topics/points, and conclusion
2. Paper format: This is a formal research paper. Therefore, my expectations are as follows:
- Typed and printed
- Standard type face such as Times New Roman
- Double spaced
- 12-point type
- Number pages except the title page
- Avoid contractions such as don't or can't; use do not or cannot.
- A hard copy of the paper will be required on the day the paper is due. I will not be excepting papers via e-mail.
- I will not accept papers that are not either stapled together, OR put together in binder.
3. A minimum of three references must be included in the body of the paper and in the works cited using either
MLA or APA reference style. (If you are used to working with a different formal citation style you may use it as
long as it is preapproved in advance)
4. Works Cited: A works cited is an alphabetical list of sources used in preparing your paper and does not count
toward the 3-5 page minimum report requirement.
