The associations of perceived neighborhood disorder and physical activity with obesity among African American adolescents

The article describes obesity as a health problem associated with neighborhood. It states that people living in disordered neighborhoods significantly are affected by obesity status. The statistical information provided indicate that the adolescent obesity status of African Americans include (1= normal weight, 2=overweight and 3=obese). The rate of occurrence is high among adolescents in disordered neighborhoods due to poorer diet quality and lack of physical exercises. The article suggests that community-based interventions such as increasing participation in physical activities and changing the neighborhood perception would minimize obesity among adolescents from African American community. Increasing participation in physical activities supports my proposed solutions to reduce obesity (Dulin-Keita, Thind, Affuso & Baskin, 2013).
