I started out working for a 3PL company when I was twenty-two years old. I began toenjoy the challenges and struggles that logistics presented as there was never a dull day.Logistics to me always kept me on my toes as the constant changing of what was to be donefluctuated greatly. I’ve come to understand with the logistics, the greatest challenge is to notfight the day but to merely survive it. Throughout my journey thus far, I have learned quite a bitfrom both knowledge in regards to enlightenment and practicality in regards to on the jobperformance and decisions. I went from assisting in the daily operations of a local 3PL companyto being responsible while actively participating in managing over $50 million dollars ofinventory for a large cell phone provider. I know classify myself as a growth-focused, detailoriented, and hands-on professional with extensive experience in logistics and operationsmanagement. I am known for analytical problem-solving and critical thinking aptitudes inassessing facility operations and providing strategic action plans to enhance operations. I am also5|Pageadept at managing group dynamics, as well as in building, motivating, guiding, and leading highcaliber teams of professionals. I am equipped with articulate communication and interpersonalskills in building positive and long-term work relationships with clients and professionals of alllevels. My skill - set includes the following list; Six Sigma, 5S, Lean, and Just-in-time (JIT)ManufacturingProcesses,WarehouseManagementandERP Systems,InventoryManagement, Process Improvement Strategies, Occupational Safety and Health andRegulatory Compliance, Performance Management, Training, and Teamwork just to touchbase on several key areas of expertise. These skills have either been learned through on the jobtraining or educational courses and are extremely valued in today’s world of supply chainmanagement. My main strategic goal to accomplish in the next two years would be the pursuit ofobtaining my Bachelor Degree in Supply Chain Management while still being gainfullyemployed. I am really focused on continuing my education and firmly believe that uponcompletion, this will be utilized as my skeleton key to open any door of my choosing when itcomes to either staying where I am employed or venturing out and pursuing other options in mycareer. The main five year goal that I possess and am currently in the process of striving for is tomove up within the corporate ladder and be the operations manager of my own facility within thecurrent organization that I work for or perhaps another company that values both my work ethicand skill – set as it transitions to the organization from an individual standpoint. The mainstrategic ten year goal that I possess would be to become the regional director of operations orperhaps vice president of operations, while furthering my education and obtaining a Master’sDegree in Supply Chain Management. I like to believe I embody the passion and drive to besuccessful in whatever is presented to me. I like the mental challenges that supply chain canpresent and I try to learn something new every day as it is always changing. I liken supply chain6|Pageto an organism that is constantly evolving and adapting to the current environment and in orderto be a successful manager I have no choice but to do this myself or risk being left aside in mycareer within this industry. Overall, I believe my passion and desire towards the industry willfurther elevate and open new proposals for myself and I rather look forward to crossing thesebridges when they become presented. The first and perhaps biggest responsibility I had the privilege of undertaking was theproper training and implementation of how the employees would be delegated to specific jobfunctions throughout the course of the daily tasks in regards to normal business practices andoperations. This was very important due to the scope of operations that are engaged in a dailymanner at the facility. I needed everyone to be on board and trained properly for the tasks thatare required for the employees to facilitate. I had to ensure to properly train employees onbusiness methods and procedures that are vital to day-to-day operations. I also had to ensure toproperly train employees on RF Scanners and how they are used to locate product to pick andship the associated product that is in the facility. I needed to learn how to delegate workinstructions for daily business operations to ensure product is accurately scanned away forstorage and that product is accurately picked and prepped for shipment to final destination. Thiswas a major challenge for myself as I was somewhat used to doing the majority of the warehouse7|Pageoperations by myself. I had to put forth trust and learn teamwork from a manager’s standpoint inmy fellow employees to install a belief in myself that they could and would learn the proper wayof doing the scope of business that was necessary to maintain the level of business that wasdesired from the customer’s standpoint. The second responsibility that I had the benefit ofundertaking was the organizational structuring of the material requests that were processed fromengineers to be picked by the employees to ensure adequate truck utilization from the 3PLtrucking company. This was a key component of the facility operations as it makes sure that theproduct being called out will be delivered when it's supposed to be as in the correct piece andpart needed for on air site utilization. I was adamant about ensuring material requests wereprinted off accurately and assigned to the proper personal for product picking by utilizing CATS(inventory management software). I even implemented the auditing of outbound shipments as away of double checking the order fulfillment accuracy levels. I needed to ensure that multiplejobs could be placed on the 3PL trucks to maximize order picking and truck efficiency. I had towork closely with the 3PL trucking company to ensure that they would have enough dedicatedtrucks to haul product, along with facilitating the routing procedures so that deliveries would bemade in a timely fashion and also correspond with the tower crews whom could be waiting atsite for installs. I had to make sure essentially that the 3PL would utilize efficiency to maximizedelivery time management. My third responsibility at the facility was to work closely with uppermanagement to ensure all company policies and procedures were being enforced, along withcustomer satisfaction. I needed to actively participate on all conferences calls whether they weredaily or weekly with both upper management and the customer to properly address any issuesthat may have risen. I was tasked with running and reporting weekly KPIs and BPIs to be givento upper management and the customer for tracking purposes from an operational standpoint to8|Pageshowcase how the facility was progressing with the scope of work that was being performed. Ineeded to liaise with upper management when they come to town for annul facility site visitsensuring facility cleanliness and standards were being met. I was tasked with facilitating weeklymeetings with employees to reiterate business goals and objectives to them so that we all arepulling our weight in the same direction and to also address any concerns or issues that theemployees may have had in regards to doing business at the facility. The final responsibility thatI needed to undertake was the return process of materials coming back from the field. This iscritical as daily in some form or fashion product was being brought back to the facility to eitherbe processed for upcoming jobs, returned to the vendor, or to be disposed of. This was key as itrequires to know parts and models accurately along with determining through the engineerswhich equipment still holds value. I had to identify and label gear that has been brought backfrom the field for re-deployment, return to vendor, or to be disposed of. Upon properidentification, I was tasked with the duty of express stocking back in the corresponding gear thatwas useful to engineers and assign the original purchase order affiliation with it in order to trackits financial asset in inventory. I was responsible for contacting engineers to elaborate on whatequipment should be placed where (what status) in the facility to make sure it is visible again ininventory to them so that they may call it out to go to the field if need be for any upcomingprojects or for the equipment to be given up to the nation if any other markets needed the specificcomponents.9|PageI myself am really proud of what I was able and still am able to implement andaccomplish at the facility. Some of my career highlights under the mentorship program havebeen quite exceptional. For example, I have successfully implemented the Pareto’s Law (80/20Rule), which has significantly decreased picking times to process more orders daily, thisremoved the need for equipment repairs as to cut down on times of equipment being utilized, thus achieving significant savings in costs while maximizing employee efficiency. Thisimplementation has caused the reorganization of the facility operations to provide anaesthetically pleasing facility to the customer, while showcasing products, improving operationalflow, and maintaining accurate inventory levels. This was achieved through the delegation ofemployees to help in the reorganizing of the facility during our slow periods of product picking.Highly picked product was to be placed in the front 10 racked aisles and then the next highlypicked product was to be ran down the next 10 racked aisles and so on to create a structured10 | P a g eenvironment of picking and pulling jobs eliminating a time waste. I along with my employees, have actively participated in the transition of the facility based on the customers’ request to agreen status, disposing of the trash, cardboard, and wood by segregating it and utilizing RepublicWaste to haul away to specific recycling locations that will accept the refuse. This will aid thecustomer in attaining a projected cost savings measure in the amount $34K within the year. Thisspecific accomplishment is achieved by breaking down components that the 3PL leaves behind. For example pallets that are broken down so that gear may fit on the truck are thrown into eithertwo of the wood only dumpsters that I have at the facility. Also, cardboard is segregated frommaterials to be thrown into the cardboard only dumpster that is hauled away for recycling. Wealso utilize two metal and plastic dumpsters to ensure metal banding and any other componentsof similar nature are disposed of in their proper form as well. I also have a specific trash onlydumpster for any bill of material that doesn’t fit into these categories listed above. By exercisingthese options, not only we as individuals by respectively the company I work for and thecustomer I service are doing our part to ensure a cleanlier and healthier environment for all. Ialso played a major role through process discipline and quality checks within the companypassing all quarterly Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) audits, ensuring that actual inventory aligns with thedata displayed in the inventory management software. This was crucial as this is what comparesfacility against facility on a national level when it comes to operations. Ensuring the customersinventory accuracy was critical component in the daily operations for myself as I would eitheraudit specific location detail codes or cycle count others. I implemented color coding stickers tobe utilized by the employees when they either scan product away or relocate it. For example, blue circular dots were used by one employee as each employee had their own but this wouldallow me to track when mistakes were made and by whom. I could already tell through the11 | P a g einventory management software as to whom was doing what but this method further provided avisual aid to myself and the employee to have a greater grasp on accountability and was whatexpected when it came to locating product within the facility. In implementing this, I have hadfewer errors made by employees locating product to its storage location and status changes in thefacility. I have also recommended and implemented cost-saving procedures throughout thefacility, which enabled the company to secure profit without reducing employees; placing thefacility into the top two revenue-generating staging facilities in the tech side of the business. Thiswas done by eliminating the cleaning crew that was charging over $1.5K a month in services feesto be handled by all at the facility. When you treat areas with respect and like they were yourown they tend to be taken care of and things get put back into place accordingly. I myself andothers like to call this philosophy 5S. By implementing the 5S standard and designating specificareas for each employee it holds them accountable for cleanliness and organization of their area. The last thing I want to see on the warehouse floor is pieces broken pallets and shrink wrap thatis hanging off pallets in the racking. These are both hazards and eye sores in my opinion andneed to be eliminated. I have also implemented turning off the facility lights when we are off thewarehouse floor and at lunch. Eliminating over 20 hours off electrical usage in a 120K facility isa good start when it comes to cost savings against our budget. I, along with my manager, havereached out to other facilities to see if they have any extra materials that can be utilized at ourfacility saving the need for us to purchase said material thus eliminating further waste andpreserving our facilities budget. I have cut our administrative assistant hours back from 40 to 30.She can accommodate and get all the work that was required for a full 40 hour work week nowcombined into a 30 hour work week thus preserving 10 hours of payroll that is billed against myfacility as she is an incurred cost and not billed against the customer as my warehouse employees12 | P a g eare. In the trimming of the excess fat at the facility, I have successfully met and surpassedcompany projected monthly EBITDA for the facility, thus demonstrating the ability to effectivelyconserve and manage resources. These measures taken and implemented continually show thatthe facility is able to accommodate whatever challenges and or changes are thrown our way. Theconservation of financial assets in the business world is ultimately what one is judged upon andso far the facility that I represent is doing an outstanding job of such conservation and is beingmodeled after. Also, during my mentorship I personally oversaw the receipt of 37.5k PO linesreceived and shipping of 32.5k outbound PO lines with a 100% YTD Dock to Stock and 99.86%Stock to Dock KPI. At my facility I tend to take things very seriously and my work ethic reflectssuch. I pride myself on my analytics and the fact that I have never and would never for thatmatter ask any of my employees to do anything that I have never or would never do. I jump inand help them when needed and I am always available to answer any questions that they mayhave. At first as with anything involving expectations I believe I held mine to a higher standard,my standard. I was having trouble motivating employees to do certain task specific requests asthe end results wouldn’t necessarily be what I had envisioned myself. After learning specificpersonalities and how to achieve the specific things that I wanted done through employeecoaching the job tasks seem to come and go relatively at ease. I like to believe that thewarehouse personal are properly trained in all facets of daily business and will strive for zeroerrors, along with complete customer satisfaction. There are still certain things that I do findmyself doing, for example I process all returns that come back from the field. This procedure isvery attentive to detail and requires a lot of patience and research. This position I currently holdis not the end game for me. I will continue to strive for better opportunities in life. I strongly feelthat once I completely train all my employees to what knowledge I hold onto then the13 | P a g eopportunity will present itself for me to leave and move onto greener pastures. In my head, Ibelieve that my legacy at this facility will not be measured as to what I was able to do myself, but what I was able to bring out in others. This is truly the best accomplishment I find myselfenduring and leaving at the facility. In the winding down of mentorship I often thought about what it takes to be successful inthe field of supply chain management. I can honestly say that I personally have come a long wayfrom the beginning of this semester to now. I have been exposed to new ways of thinking fromboth an educational and practical application standpoint. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in theposition I was mentoring in. Some days were better than others for obvious reasons as theunforeseen will always get you. The one major lessoned I learned when it comes to supply chainmanagement is that it is better to be prepared for the worst case scenario than be prepared for thebest case scenario. By covering base on the worst scenario out there you have in fact covered allfacets of the day. I have learned a greater sense of patience when it comes to dealing withemployees and their multitude of personalities. I have learned the art of performance14 | P a g emanagement when dealing with these personalities. I have also learned to have a sense ofurgency in regards to proper time management in order to make sure certain tasks get done in theday as others can live to be taken part in tomorrow. I have learned a great respect andappreciation for proper inventory management as this is ultimately the truth and will set you freefrom an ethics standpoint when conducting business. I liked the way both the practicum and theseminar class ran hand in hand. I liked the fact that you could plan your time out for the entirementorship during the overview to give you a sense of goals and accomplishments to be reachedduring the timeframe. I also enjoyed the weekly activity assignments as these allowed for thecategorization of what was undertaken the previous week and allowed as somewhat of areflection or journal that you could build upon for the next work week. Overall, the entire supplychain degree program has played a major role in what I know now and to what practicalapplications I can apply at the work place. I felt like everything that was needed as far as theclass by class breakdown was to be built upon one another in a sense of Legos. One block fitsperfectly to another block and before you know it the entire build is complete. I was verythankful for the mentor that I had as we have been together in friendship and work for the pasttwelve years. I like to believe that during the mentorship I played with a stacked deck as I wasgiven full trust and authority to make decisions that affected both the employees and thecompany. Having full faith in an individual is a way to instill confidence and success and for thatI am very thankful and will carry wherever I may end up. I was at first very nervous about thementorship program as I do not like letting anyone down including myself I always strive forperfection. Sometimes it ends up hurting me and other times I come out on top. I suppose it alldepends on the application. Again, there isn’t much negativity I have to digress when it comes toCSCC and the supply chain program including the mentorship. My one and only15 | P a g erecommendation is perhaps someone from the college can make the time to come out and see abefore and after snapshot of what was able to be achieved. Maybe the said individual can stop byand see for themselves how the student performs in the situation of the mentorship or shadowthem for one day during the entirety of the mentorship. This, in my opinion, would be the onlything I would like to see implemented in the future involving the mentorship program. I wouldlike to also thank everyone involved in bringing the LINCS program to CSCC. I feel that thiscurriculum is a wonderful way to gain insight while achieving a greater sense of knowledge inthe industry. Overall, I am very pleased with what CSCC has had to offer and the method ofinstruction was impeccable as well. Being an online student I’ve learned and mastered the art ofdiscipline and on a continual basis apply this to real life working scenarios and for this I amthankful.
