In this Session Long Project, you are asked to select one of the following organizations: Wegman Food Markets, Mercedes-Benz USA, CISCO, or Baptist Health South Florida. [Each of these is listed on Fortune's list of top 100 employers to work for in 2011.] Please choose one of these four companies that you have not studied or used as a company in other course assignments. This same employer will be used as a base (a private-sector framework) as you mold your discussions for each of your five SLP assignments in this course.Your paper should discuss factual information specific to your chosen organization, if found. However, since our focus is on current, HRM-specific information that might be applicable to the employer you have chosen, you may also discuss information specific to other private-sector employers that might apply. What is important is your discussion of private-sector HRM terminology, laws, and HRM systems, policies, and processes and how they might apply to the organization you have chosen.Realize that some companies do not openly discuss their HRM practices. Perhaps the organization you choose for your SLP project is one of them. If so, you will need to make inferences and borrow ideas from other private-sector companies to build your discussion. For example, you have looked but can’t find information on your chosen organization's approach to the SLP assignment topic. But, you have read about other businesses' approaches to it. You could discuss those practices as they might work in your SLP organization. This is an acceptable approach for this assignment. Remember that the SLP organization that you have chosen is your "framework" for your SLP project.Many companies, however, do have their HRM practices widely known and written about. Always look first to see what you can find.For the Module 1 component of the Project, please address the following issues, using background materials, library research and specific HRM terminology and definitions as they apply to your analysis:Which one of the four organizations listed have you chosen to utilize as the framework for your SLP discussions? What number is it on the Fortune List of Best Employers for 2011? What does it do? How many employees? Where are they located? What interesting HRM facts have you learned about this organization?How might the HRM department in this organization work closely with another department in the same organization? Provide a concrete example.Where might HRM fit into the decision-making processes for this company? Why do you say that?Why did this organization make the Fortune Best Employers for 2011 list? What specific programs, policies, processes were particularly recognized? Any related to HRM?Please write from 2 to 3 pages (not counting the cover and reference pages) and submit your paper by the module due date.SLP Assignment ExpectationsAs you research the organization you selected from the Fortune List, if you cannot find the information you need on the specific organization, instead discuss information from other private-sector organizations. Apply HRM terminology, HRM background readings, research, and business examples of HRM policies, practices, and procedures as they might compare or contrast to your chosen organization. Bring in other private-sector employers' HRM activities, systems, practices and procedures as examples that fit into your assignment dicussion.Prepare a paper that is professionally presented (including a cover page, a "List of References," headings/subheadings, and a strong introduction and conclusion). Proofread your paper carefully for grammar, spelling and word-usage errors.Address all aspects of the assignment as stated above.Complement your Internet searching with library searches and be sure to bring in information from the background readings. Evaluate resources and select only library/Web-based resources that provide reliable, substantiated information.Give other authors credit for their work. Cite sources of borrowed information in the body of your text as footnotes, numbered end notes or APA style of referencing.
