Choosing a Topic: For this paper, I′d like you to research and write about a work of art. This can be a painting, a novel, a short story, a photograph, a TV show, a film... this list is endless! :) The most important thing about choosing your topic is this: your paper should be a genuine exploration and should stem from a real sense of curiosity. In other words, you should NOT choose a topic about which you already have a strong opinion. Instead, the topic you choose should allow you to pursue your research with an open mind. When most of us were writing papers in high school, we were told that we should have a thesis in our minds before we started our research. To me, this defeats the point of research, as the point of research is to use the research process to form your thinking. So, I don′t want you to know what you′re going to be arguing in your paper until after you′ve done your research. Because we have been talking about creativity so much this term, please make sure your topic is creative and unique to you. In other words, stay away from topics that are often used for research papers (if you′d like examples of these, please let me know) - or topics that you may have already used for a research paper in the past. Basic Requirements: The final draft of this paper MUST do the following things: Your final draft MUST thoughtfully integrate two scholarly, peer-reviewed sources. You may, of course, use additional sources, but at least two of them MUST be located through NECC′s library databases (here is the link: http://northeast.edu/Library-Resources/) and MUST be peer-reviewed, scholarly sources. (Peer-reviewed scholarly sources are the ″gold standard″ because they have been reviewed by other experts in the field, and those experts have said that the research being published is reliable and offers a useful contribution to the field. For more on how to tell if something is peer-reviewed, check out this website: https://guides.library.utoronto.ca/peer-review (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.) Your final draft needs to be at least six pages long (this does not include the works cited page). Because this is a research project, you MUST have a works cited page and properly-formatted in-text and works cited citations. You will be submitting a total of three draft of this paper (the first draft, the second draft, and the final draft). In order for me to grade your final draft, you must submit all previous drafts. The Proposal For Wednesday, September 26, you will need to submit a proposal for your MLA Research Project, and the proposal should include the following things: A research question that you′re hoping to answer through your research. (See assignment desсrіption above for what kinds of things would make good topics.) Hop onto NECC′s library databases and show me PDFs of two scholarly, peer-reviewed sources you′re thinking of using in your paper. After reading through the assignment desсrіption above and the MLA handout (see attached), I′d like you to list any questions you′d like me to answer about the assignment or how to cite your research. If I can be of any help as you′re looking for sources, please let me know because I genuinely LOVE doing research. :) MLA Research Project Proposal + Review Questions 1. Research Question: Should companies allow employees to exercise on their own time? 2.
