Final Project
Overview
The Final Project requires that you compare and contrast three major theories we explored in the course using the BETA Model. You should select a theory from three of the four areas of BETA, specific to Background, Thoughts, and Actions. For the purpose of this assignment, you do not need to include Emotions Theories unless it is a theory to discuss in your Reflection Section. For this assignment, you will compare and contrast each of the three theories you selected with respect to use in your professional setting (eg school, agency). You will also provide a reflection piece that will be the beginning of your understanding of your own personal theory of counseling. Use the APA template provided in course documents. Be specific and use examples. This total project is worth 200 points.
Directions
Complete the activity: selecting a guiding theory. You will need to describe what this process was like for you in the reflective section of your report.
Students often ask, “Can you write my essay in APA or MLA?”—and the answer’s a big yes! Our writers are experts in every style imaginable: APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, you name it. Just tell us what you need, and we’ll deliver a perfectly formatted paper that matches your requirements, hassle-free.
Overall, the paper should be 10-15 pages in length and contain references to support assertions made in the paper. You are required to delve into readings beyond your course text to support your work. For maximum credit with respect to sources, you should select a minimum of five sources to support your writing.
Introduction of Report
Decide which of the theories to discuss across the three areas. One theory must be from a Background Theory; one theory must be from a Thought Theory, and one theory must be from an Action Theory. Define and describe the selected theories in the introduction section of your report.
Body of Report
For each of the selected theories, compare and contrast the following areas:
1. Key Concepts – (Includes Learning Outcome: Understand the basic components of facilitative counseling skills)
a. What is the theory’s view of human nature, and what are the basic assumptions underlying the approach?
b. What primary characteristics distinguish the approach? What are its major areas of focus and emphasis? What are the fundamental ideas?
2. The Therapeutic Process – (Includes Learning Outcome: Evaluate the counselor characteristics and behaviors that influence the helping processes)
a. What are the therapeutic goals?
b. What are the functions and role of the therapist?
c. What is the client’s role in the therapeutic process? What is expected of the client? What does the client do?
d. What is the nature of the relationship between the client and the therapist?

3. Applications: Techniques & Procedures – (Includes Learning Outcome: Analyze counseling theories and techniques in terms of their application to diverse populations)
a. What are the major techniques and methods?
b. Where is the approach most applicable? To what types of client? To what types of problems? In what settings?
c. What is your evaluation of the approach? What are the limitations? Unique contributions? Aspects you like most and/or least?
Reflection of Theories
To complete the reflection, you should first complete the Theories Sorter.
1. The reflection section includes an application of this course to your future work as a helper. It might include a theory/theories from any of the four areas of the BETA model. What are some possible cultural limitations of the identified theory/theories?
2. What theory/theories appeared in your results of the theory sorter? How is this outcome aligned with the way you experienced learning about each of the theories from the content of each module? Do you think the sorter is accurate? Why or why not?
3. What did you learn in this course about the process of counseling? What does a counselor do? What does a counselor not do? What are some of your personal strengths and weaknesses from your own experiences that might impact your work with clients?
4. What did you learn about yourself in this course? How might you apply this new understanding in your counseling approach?
