Teenage pregnancy is a major issue in the United States. Some people say that this is society’s fault others say that having sex is a personal choice and this leads to pregnancy. I feel like is society’s fault. Because there are some things that society can do better to prevent it. Excessive teenage pregnancy won’t be eradicated at all but it can be reduced with an appropriate media, more birth control or new strategies to get people have birth control, and people to give good examples for young girls. Just turning on the tv and going through the channels on any day you can see all kinds of inappropriate media full of sexual content.

Apart from the sex scenes in movies, there are shows that opens about teen pregnancy. Shows like ‘Teen Mom’ and ’16 and Pregnant’ make pregnancy seem acceptable and cool. Not happy to be on TV some people create pages on Facebook and posted the ‘best moments of the season’ ‘the funny scenes’ and made them go viral.

A lot of Facebook users get in their minds that is okay, that is fun spending your life taking care of another child besides yourself. If having sex at young ages didn’t seem like the cool thing to do, many teens probably wouldn’t do it. I think that taking inappropriate shows and movies off the air and change the perspectives we could make a positive change in our society. Other solution is birth control, there are many forms of birth control.

In a lot of arguments about this topic there is talk about making condoms been more available for young people, but I think that different ways of birth control that are more effective should be promoted instead. Condoms are important to use, but many times they can break, the guy persuade the girl to let him not use it, make any excuse, and therefore they are ineffective. Plus, in the heat of the moment a condom is not the first thing that somebody thinks while having sex, only responsible young people could have the intelligence of using one but those people aren’t having sex during their teenage years. So, we can let the girls have a little more responsibility since they are the ones that will carry a baby if they choose not to do something. For example, the next day pill which is expensive but effective or birth control pills are a cheaply made, more effective form of birth control. If forms of birth control like the pill were cheaper and easier to get, more teens would be protected and less would get pregnant. The world in general is in need of good role models.

Anyone that a teen looks up to should really try to focus on setting a good example. In a world full of bad examples, its especially important to set good ones for that person in his/her growing stage. It can be a family member. Society tends to force the oldest brother/sister to set the example but nowadays I have seen the younger sister get pregnant before the oldest, which contradicts the idea of society that the younger would do what the oldest do. In part parents have their mistakes. They can be too strict so the son/daughter do what is told not to do just to bother them, the parents that let their children do what they want excusing themselves by saying that they trust them, and the ones that when they got one of their daughters facing pregnancy and then they happily would solve their lives and tell them not to worry. They don’t realize that the younger kids are watching this and then they would do it, why? Because dad or mom would fix it later.

All parents try their best and a mistake is understandable. Nobody born knowing how to be a parent. Teenagers need role models to protect them from falling victim to the pressures of today’s society, especially the sexual ones.
