\nOS Problem Set
\nIntroduction
\nThe following machine description will provide the basis for this assignment. You will
\ncreate a virtual machine\/operating system for the machine described below that will accept
\nprograms in the target machine language. The details for this assignment are presented
\nbelow following the machine description.
\nMICROPROGRAMMING\/MACHINE DISCRIPTION
\nThe following is a description of a machine called SIMMAC that contains the following:
\n512 32-bit words of memory (memory is word addressable).
\nEach Instruction consists of a 16-bit opcode and a 16-bit operand.
\nAn ALU for performing mathematical operations.
\nRegisters
\nACC Accumulator; A 32-bit register involved in all arithmetic
\noperations. One of the operands in each arithmetic operation
\nmust be in the Accumulator; the other must be in primary
\nstorage.
\nPSIAR Primary Storage Instruction Address Register; This 16-bit
\nregister points to the location in primary storage of the next
\nmachine language instruction to be executed.
\nSAR Storage Address Register; This 16-bit register is involved in all
\nreferences to primary storage. It holds the address of the
\nlocation in primary storage being read from or written to.
\nSDR Storage Data Register; This 32-bit register is also involved in
\nall references to primary storage. It holds the data being
\nwritten to or receives the data being read from primary storage
\nat the location specified in the SAR.
\nTMPR Temporary Register; This 32-bit register is used to extract the
\naddress portion (rightmost 16-bits) of the machine instruction in
\nthe SDR so that it may be placed in the SAR. (No SDR to SAR
\n2
\ntransfer.)
\nCSIAR Control Storage Instruction Address Register; This register
\npoints to the location of the next micro-instruction (in control
\nstorage) to be executed.
\nIR Instruction Register; This register contains the current
\ninstruction being executed.
\nMIR Micro-instruction Register; This register contains the current
