African Diasporic traditions are a collection of beliefs which vary across time, cultures and nations in Africa; especially those of West Africa. These cultural traditions were denigrated by the European colonizers and were made illegal under penalty of death if practiced openly during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and colonial period of the Americas. As a result many people hold negative views about traditions from Africa.
