The hazard identification process as described in the community’s website basically applies various processes. As such, the process begins by mapping out where current threats that could lead to accidents and hazards exist, the types of risk they present, the people that could be impacted, the scale of the damage they present, the probability of the accident, and factors that increase the probability of the hazard occurring. Risks are then analyzed, controls are established and maintained and hazards are reviewed. In my view, the activities and/or processes to be taken in every phase of the hazard identification process are clearly defined. In addition, every activity described and mentioned is necessary. However, I believe that more could be done to make the process more efficient. For instance, in the risk analysis phase, it is important to clearly point out the risk objects and hazards that should be included and the ones that should be left out, and the specific geographical areas that should be covered. Also, the process should identify the various stakeholders and the role each one of them plays in the various phases (Hyatt, 2018).
It appears that the community leaders and public administrators are not allocating appropriate resources and not attempting to engage the whole community. Obviously, the hazard identification process requires monetary resources in order to carry out the various activities associated with the process. Money is also needed to pay the various people responsible for performing and implementing the process. Unfortunately, a mere 5% of the budget has been allocated for the process. Also, community members are hardly engaged in the process; their opinions are not factored in, and they are not given any roles in the process. To address some of these insufficiencies, I would use various social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook to lobby for more funds to be added to process, and for locals to be engaged in all the phases.
