In this Assignment, you will consider the evolving role of the nurse leader and how this evolution has led nurse leaders to assume the role of knowledge worker. You will prepare a PowerPoint presentation with an infographic (graphic that visually represents information, data, or knowledge. Infographics are intended to present information quickly and clearly.) to educate others on the role of nurse as knowledge worker.

To Prepare:
Review the concepts of informatics as presented in the Resources.
Reflect on the role of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.
Consider how knowledge may be informed by data that is collected/accessed.
The Assignment:
Include one slide that visually represents the role of a nurse leader as knowledge worker.
Your PowerPoint should Include the hypothetical scenario you originally shared in the Discussion Forum. Include your examination of the data that you could use, how the data might be accessed/collected, and what knowledge might be derived from that data. Be sure to incorporate feedback received from your colleagues’ responses.
Develop a 5- to 6-slide PowerPoint presentation that addresses the following:
A. Ably synthesize the literature and course resources to present a clear and accurate explanation of the 2 concepts; 1. presentation clearly and accurately explains the concept of a knowledge worker; 2. presentation clearly and accurately defines and explains nursing informatics.
B. Includes a detailed graphic and explanation of the role of the nurse leader as a knowledge worker.
C. Present the hypothetical scenario you originally shared in the Discussion Forum. Include your examination of the data you could use, how the data might be accessed/collected, and what knowledge might be derived from the data. Be sure to incorporate feedback received from your colleagues’ replies.
D. The presentation must be professional; images must appropriately attributed; clear, readable, flows well and presented in a logical order.

The Nurse Leader as Knowledge Worker
Knowledge workers use their skills to enhance patient care. Nurses are knowledge workers in various levels of practice. Informaticists use their skills to help nurses and physicians in decision making. Nurses use their knowledge to enhance patient care, promote quality patient outcomes, and promote privacy. It involves sharing information and always searching for new information to improve care.
A knowledge worker is a specialist in a field of work. Specialists receive formal training to practice (Kianto et al., 2018). For instance, nurses, physicians, and pharmacists are knowledge workers. Knowledge workers use their skills to enhance patient care (Kianto et al., 2018). Nurses use their skills to enhance patient safety in diagnosis and treatment.
Nursing informatics involves the practice of using diverse technologies in healthcare (Sweeney, 2017). Informatics involve using technologies such as electronic health records. Nurses use the infrastructure to enhance patient care (Sweeney, 2017). Informaticists use their skills to help nurses and physicians in decision making. Decision support systems are part of the informatics in nursing.
A nurse encounters a patient with a mental condition and HIV/AIDs. The nurse as a knowledge worker and while applying informatics must protect the data of the patient. Principles and ethics in nursing encourage nurses to protect patient data. It is important to use technology to protect data to avoid disclosure of the health condition.
