Reflective Journaling Rubric

Journaling enables reflection on the class guided learning. Students should make one post for three learning topics provided by Dr. Pruitt. Each case study is worth 1 point (3 points total). Made within Canvas, each journal posts should take approximately 15 minutes. Assessment will be based on the depth of reflection (review/analysis/evaluation) of your learning process and/or performance.

Guideline Points
Posting is reflective, and includes critical assessments/analysis of the topic. 1
Posting is descriptive or statements of fact without reasoning or critical thinking. 0. 5
Posting is brief and unsubstantial. Little effort was made to reflect on the topic. 0

Journal posts should take approximately 15 minutes to complete within the learning management system. Assessment will be based on the depth of reflection, which includes a review/analysis/evaluation of the student’s learning process and/or performance on the topic.

This rubric evaluates students’ journal entries based on their level of reflection, which is key to the learning process. Higher scores are given to posts that go beyond mere descriptions to include critical analysis and evaluation of how the topic impacted the student’s understanding. Lower scores are assigned if posts lack reasoning or fail to demonstrate thoughtful consideration of learning. This rubric provides clear guidelines that help students understand what is expected for their reflective journaling assignments.
