Case Summary and Report using the client from the approved movie

Students will develop a Case Summary and Report using the client from the approved movie. Each assignment below will be completed throughout the semester to formulate the final report. Students will write a Comprehensive Case Summary and choose the Evaluation Model based on one of the following perspectives: Psychodynamic Behavioral, Existential, Adlerian, or Transactional Analysis (Chapter 26: Formats for Reports, Evaluations, and Summaries in The Clinician’s Thesaurus). Be sure to write the Diagnostic Impression in the current DSM-V format (See Course Resources). Each assignment will get feedback collectively. Terms should be used from the Clinician’s Thesaurus.

Name: Will Hunting

Presenting Problem
Will Hunting is a 20-year-old male who works as a janitor at MIT. Despite his genius-level intellect and exceptional skills in mathematics, Will struggles with forming close relationships and has a history of legal troubles due to his aggressive behavior. He was recently arrested for assaulting a police officer and is now facing the possibility of imprisonment.
Medical History
There is no known significant medical history for Will Hunting.
Psychiatric History
Will has no prior psychiatric history or treatment.
Substance Abuse History
Will occasionally smokes cigarettes and drinks alcohol, but there is no indication of substance abuse issues.
Family History
Will is an orphan who spent his childhood in foster care and group homes. He experienced physical abuse from his foster father, which likely contributed to his current emotional and behavioral challenges.
Psychosocial Information
Will has difficulty forming close relationships and tends to push people away with his abrasive behavior. He has a few acquaintances but no close friends. Will’s exceptional intelligence allows him to excel academically without effort, but he lacks direction and motivation in his life.
Mental Status Exam
During the mental status exam, Will appeared alert and oriented. His mood was guarded, and his affect was constricted. Will’s thought processes were logical and coherent, with no evidence of delusions or hallucinations. He exhibited above-average intelligence and insight into his problems.
Assessment Instrument
The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) could be administered to assess Will’s personality structure and identify any psychopathology. The MMPI-2 is a widely used self-report inventory that provides information about an individual’s personality traits, clinical syndromes, and behavioral tendencies (Ben-Porath & Tellegen, 2020).

Treatment Plan
The attached treatment plan outlines the therapeutic goals and interventions for Will Hunting. The primary objectives are to help Will develop healthier coping mechanisms, improve his interpersonal relationships, and find direction in his life.
Theoretical Orientation
The treatment approach for Will Hunting will be based on Psychodynamic theory. Psychodynamic therapy focuses on exploring unconscious conflicts, early childhood experiences, and defense mechanisms that contribute to current emotional and behavioral problems (Leichsenring et al., 2019). Through the therapeutic relationship, Will can gain insight into his patterns of relating to others and work through his trust issues stemming from his history of abuse. Transference and countertransference will be important aspects of the therapy, as Will is likely to project his feelings about authority figures onto the therapist (Strean & Freeman, 2018). The therapist will help Will understand and work through these emotions in a safe and supportive environment.
