Developing HR Policy The Personal Development Portfolio (PDP) provides the framework to help you expand your academic, professional and career development; build and sustain a personal learning network; articulate your professional goals; and reflect on your skills through various strategies and assessments. In this module there are two PDP submissions. The first PDP Assignment is due for submission here in Week 4, and the second PDP Assignment is due for submission in the final week of the module, Week 8. To prepare for this PDP Assignment: In this week’s PDP Assignment, you will reflect upon your prior knowledge and experience, and consider various perspectives relating to HR policy development. •Reflect on your prior knowledge of and experience with HR policy in organisations. As an employee, reflect upon your own perspective and engagement with HR policy. •Reflect upon the perspective of colleagues whose role may involve HR policy development and/or whose role requires a close working relationship with HR policy developers.

Think about your prior experiences as an employee with HR policies. What are some of the HR policies that you have encountered in your workplace? What was your experience with them? Did you feel that they were effective or ineffective? Why?

Consider the impact of HR policies on your work life. How have HR policies affected your job performance, your relationships with your colleagues, and your overall job satisfaction?

Reflect on the perspective of colleagues who may be involved in HR policy development. How do you think HR policy developers approach their work? What do you think are some of the challenges they face in developing effective HR policies?

Think about the perspective of colleagues who work closely with HR policy developers. What are their experiences of working with HR policy developers? How do they feel about the HR policies that are in place in your organization?

Consider the broader context of HR policy development. What are some of the external factors that may influence HR policy development in your organization? How do these factors impact the effectiveness of HR policies?

Finally, think about your own goals and aspirations related to HR policy development. What skills and knowledge do you need to develop in order to be effective in this area? How can you use the PDP framework to help you achieve these goals?

By reflecting on these questions, you can gain a better understanding of your own experiences with HR policies and the perspectives of others involved in HR policy development. This can help you develop a more nuanced and informed perspective on HR policy development, which can be valuable for your own professional development and for contributing to the development of effective HR policies in your organization.
